Parliament has been adjourned to January 2, 2024, following the failure of Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam to present the 2025 Mini-Budget before the close of the current parliamentary session.
The Mini-Budget, which is a constitutional requirement, was expected to outline the country’s fiscal priorities for the upcoming year, including strategies for revenue mobilization and fiscal consolidation.
Despite the high expectations, the presentation did not take place, leading Speaker Alban Bagbin to adjourn proceedings.
Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson expressed disappointment over the Finance Minister’s inability to meet this critical mandate but reassured that the Vice President could present the Expenditure in Advance of Appropriation in January.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin blamed the delay on what he described as the lawlessness of the minority group but assured that the Finance Minister would lay the necessary expenditure when Parliament resumes.
