The Deputy Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahdi Gibrill, has declared that a re-run of the election in the Ablekuma North constituency is the only fair and viable solution.
Speaking on ABC News GH on Friday, June 20, Gibrill criticized the Electoral Commission’s stance on the matter, stating that it “lacks merit” and does not reflect the realities on the ground.
He clarified that the NDC is not seeking an automatic victory but rather a fair contest, adding, “A re-run doesn’t guarantee a win for the NPP; it’s simply the fairest path forward.”
Mahdi Gibrill further accused the Electoral Commission of intentionally misinforming the public about the situation in Ablekuma North.
“The EC is deliberately misleading the public,” he warned, urging stakeholders to prioritise transparency and electoral integrity.
The disputed constituency remains a point of contention following unresolved issues from the previous election, with growing calls for an impartial resolution to uphold public confidence in Ghana’s democratic process.
