President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the acting Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC).
Following his appointment, he has been tasked to establishment of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), a key manifesto promise of the NDC seeking to revitalize the country’s economy through sustainable gold resource management.
The GoldBod, to be set up under the direction of the Minister of Finance, is expected to oversee the formalization of Ghana’s small-scale gold mining sector and provide mining support services.
In an official statement issued by the acting Spokesperson for the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, on Thursday night, it was noted that the GoldBod would focus on the sustainable marketing and management of Ghana’s gold resources for the benefit of all Ghanaians.
Educational and Professional Background
Sammy Gyamfi brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a background in law, environmental science, and economic policy.
An alumnus of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Ghana School of Law, Gyamfi also holds executive certificates from Harvard Kennedy School.
He previously worked with Exton Cubic Group Limited, a prominent mining company, and is expected to leverage his expertise to navigate the challenges of Ghana’s gold industry.
He is the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress.
