After days of heightened tensions and political outcry, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has lifted the suspension of four Members of Parliament (MPs) who were sanctioned following a chaotic vetting session on January 30, 2025.
The dramatic suspension had ignited fierce debate, with the Minority walking out in protest and accusing the Speaker of overreach.
The decision to reinstate the MPs comes after both the Majority Leader and Minority Leader appealed for reconsideration.
Announcing the reversal, Bagbin stated:
“So, I have lifted the suspension order. I do so instantly, and it takes effect immediately. The affected Honorable Members are permitted now to enter the precincts of the house. I must say they actually complied with the orders.”
The Speaker, however, made it clear that the investigations into the chaotic vetting process would continue, assuring that Parliament would eventually take a formal decision on the matter.
