A student of Nkwanta Senior High School in the Oti Region has tragically lost their life after being struck by a stray bullet while writing a mock examination.
The incident, which occurred around midday, has left the entire school community and Nkwanta South Municipality in deep shock.
In a swift response to the tragedy, authorities have ordered the immediate closure of all basic schools in the area to safeguard students and staff.
Speaking to JoyNews, reporter Peter Senoo recounted the tense atmosphere on the ground, quoting a teacher who described the situation as “chaotic and frightening.”
The teacher, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was among those fleeing the scene.
While the origin of the bullet remains unknown, investigations are expected to be launched to establish the circumstances leading to the student’s death and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
