The Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has successfully held the first batch of its 2026 disbursement ceremony for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF).

The event, held on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Assembly’s premises, marks the 13th disbursement since its establishment, reaffirming its sustained commitment to inclusivity, empowerment, and equal opportunities for all.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Ludwig Teye Totimeh, emphasized that the Assembly’s development agenda is firmly anchored in inclusive local governance and social equity, ensuring that no individual is marginalized due to physical, sensory, or intellectual challenges.

He noted that supporting persons with disabilities is not merely an act of charity but a strategic investment in human potential and community development.

He further expressed appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for increasing the PWD Fund from 3% to 5%, effective 2026, describing the policy as a significant boost to disability inclusion and empowerment.

Since 2018, the Assembly, through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development and the Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC), has consistently provided support to persons with disabilities across the municipality.

As of 2025, a total of 510 applications have been received from persons with disabilities, out of which 267 beneficiaries have been supported through various interventions. This reflects significant progress in strengthening an inclusive and supportive municipal system.

For the 13th batch, thirteen (13) beneficiaries were selected from communities including Adjei Kojo, Baatsona, Cambodia, Community 2, Community 5, Lashibi, Sakumono, and Suncity. Out of the beneficiaries, eleven (11) are males and two (2) are females, with four (4) children also benefiting. An indication of the Assembly’s commitment to promoting inclusivity from an early age. The support is intended to promote economic independence, social inclusion, and sustainable livelihoods among beneficiaries.

The MCE urged caregivers of the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds and equipment received. He particularly advised those venturing into business to manage their resources effectively and serve as role models within their communities.
