Kodzo Yaotse, Policy Lead for Petroleum and Conventional Energy, at the Africa Centre for Energy Policy has labeled the Gold-for-Oil program a failure.
He pointed out that significant losses have been incurred, with fuel prices continuing to rise.
In an interview on Business News Update on ABC News GH TV, Mr. Yaotse blamed the previous government for not establishing a specialized department with experts to effectively manage the program.
Following the suspension of the Gold-for-Oil programme, Mr. Yaotse called on the governor to produce a detailed report outlining what went wrong and the full extent of the losses incurred.
Meanwhile, he urged the government to stabilize the currency and rationalize taxes on petroleum products as immediate measures to control rising prices.
Kojo Yaotse emphasized that they have issued a statement on the matter, highlighting that these charges are ultimately passed on to consumers and should be reconsidered.
