Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has denied allegations that she transferred court cases out of personal interest, calling them false and misleading.
Addressing one of the core claims in a petition by Mr. Daniel Ofori, she explained that a judge involved in the said case had traveled abroad due to a family emergency, necessitating a reassignment of her dockets.
“There is no basis for the claim that I transferred a case because I had an interest in the petitioner’s matter,” she clarified.
Torkornoo noted that it is standard judicial procedure to reassign related cases for efficiency and continuity, and described the accusation as rooted in misunderstanding rather than fact.
She warned that if such baseless claims can be used to target the Chief Justice, no judge in Ghana is safe from similar political or personal attacks.
