Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to the Metropolitan Police.
The 32-year-old Ghanaian international, who recently departed the Premier League side after five years, faces allegations involving three different women.
The incidents are said to have occurred between 2021 and 2022.
According to the police, two of the rape charges relate to one woman, while three others involve a second woman.
The single count of sexual assault involves a third woman.
“The charges follow an investigation by detectives, which commenced in February 2022 after police first received a report of rape,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Partey is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5.
Partey had recently attracted interest from top European clubs including Juventus, Barcelona, and Fenerbahce following the expiration of his contract with Arsenal.
During his tenure at the Emirates, he struggled with injuries but still made 35 appearances in the last season, scoring four goals.
He also remains a regular figure in Ghana’s national team setup, having earned dozens of caps.
