In a devastating incident at Okyereko junction, situated in the Gomoa East district of the Central region, reports indicate that a collision between an Abidjan-bound Yutong bus and a fuel tanker has resulted in the loss of 15 lives, with more than 25 passengers sustaining critical injuries.

Eyewitnesses at the scene revealed that the fuel tanker, bearing registration number WR 2063-10, was en route from Accra to Cape Coast when the driver, apparently fatigued, began dozing off and swerved from its designated lane.

Consequently, the tanker collided with the Yutong bus, identified by registration number GR 5866-L, which was heading towards Accra.

According to an official from the Ghana National Fire Service, who provided an update during the ongoing rescue operation, 15 fatalities have been confirmed as at the time of reporting with efforts to save lives still ongoing.

Passengers who sustained severe injuries have been transported to the Winneba Trauma Centre for urgent medical attention.

Another eyewitness recounted following the Yutong bus from Winneba junction towards Okyereko when they suddenly heard a loud crash.

“We followed it from Winneba junction. When we heard the sound, we rushed here and saw the victims here. I called the Trauma Hospital Emergency Unit. I am a nurse there. We are rushing to the place to see how we can help save the others.
