Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has reassured commuters across the country that transport fares will remain unchanged for the time being, despite recent reductions in fuel prices.
His comments come in response to rising public expectations for fare cuts, especially after previous threats by transport unions to increase fares during periods of fuel price hikes.
Speaking on the issue, Mr. Nikpe explained that the Ministry of Transport is actively engaging with transport unions and operators, stressing that decisions on fare adjustments are not arbitrary but guided by a well-established formula.
“I am in constant touch with the unions and transport operators. We have a formula in which we use to either increase or reduce prices, and we have not gotten there yet,” he stated.
The Minister further emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue with key stakeholders to ensure stability within the sector.
“We are in good touch. We are working together, and Ghanaians should be rest assured that prices will be kept for some time before any of the adjustments will be made,” he added.
