The newly sworn-in Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has indicated that his office may discontinue the trial of social activist and private legal practitioner Oliver Barker-Vormawor.
Speaking to media after his swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on January 2r2, Dr. Ayine said he would thoroughly review the case docket left by his predecessor, Godfred Dame, before deciding whether to proceed with or drop the charges.
Mr. Barker-Vormawor, arrested on February 11, 2022, at Kotoka International Airport upon his return from the UK, faces treason felony charges over a social media post interpreted as a coup threat.
Dr. Ayine explained, “I will study the docket and, based upon my own opinion, decide whether or not to drop the charges.”
He emphasized that he would not make any commitments before thoroughly examining the case to ensure the charges were properly laid.
