The Electoral Commission (EC) has reassured the public that the results for the two outstanding constituencies—Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya—will be finalized before the swearing-in of the 9th Parliament on January 7, 2025.
Dr. Bossman Asare, the Deputy Chair of the EC, expressed confidence that the Members of Parliament-elect for these constituencies would be declared soon.
“We are hopeful that the two outstanding constituencies will have their Members of Parliament-elect very, very soon, way before the swearing-in in Parliament,” Dr. Asare stated during a press conference on Tuesday.
This announcement follows the EC’s gazetting of parliamentary election results for 274 constituencies and submission to the Clerk of Parliament.
The re-collation process for Ablekuma North and Dome Kwabenya was suspended due to incomplete pink sheets from some polling stations, with the EC still awaiting results from 37 polling stations in Ablekuma North and documents from three polling stations in Dome Kwabenya.
Despite criticisms, Dr. Asare defended the re-collation process, asserting that earlier declarations in these constituencies did not follow due process, prompting the decision to rectify the results.
The EC had previously completed the collation of results for seven other constituencies by December 21, 2024, resolving disputes in areas such as Obuasi East and Nsawam-Adoagyiri.
Dr. Asare reiterated that the re-collation of results is a standard procedure, citing similar instances in previous elections, such as in 2004.
