The Volta Regional Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against transnational crime with the interception of a large cache of ammunition during a routine checkpoint operation.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Tadzewu-Mitsrikasa Police barrier, when officers stopped a Hyundai passenger bus with registration number GR 8246-Q, which was traveling from Accra to Benin.

The two men operating the vehicle initially denied any knowledge of the illicit cargo. However, preliminary investigations identified the co-driver as the individual responsible for loading the ammunition onto the vehicle without the driver’s knowledge.
In light of the findings, the driver was granted bail to enable him to safely continue the journey with the passengers, while the co-driver remains in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.

He is expected to be arraigned before court on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
In its statement, the Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to combating cross-border criminal activities, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in preserving peace and security within Ghana and across the West African sub-region.
