Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has returned to Ghana after undergoing medical treatment in the United Kingdom. She touched down at Kotoka International Airport at exactly 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
Her arrival was met with a warm reception led by President John Dramani Mahama, alongside First Lady Lordina Mahama, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Gender Minister Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and other senior government officials.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang had been out of the country since early April, following a sudden illness that began on Friday, March 28.
After receiving initial care at the University of Ghana Medical Centre, she was placed on a three-week medical leave starting April 7 and subsequently travelled to the UK for further treatment.
The move, officials said, was precautionary and aimed at ensuring her full recovery.
Her return marks a positive turn for the presidency, with expectations high that she will resume her official duties in the coming days. During a Thank You Tour in Dodowa on May 16, President Mahama had told supporters, “Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is back and well,” expressing his relief and appreciation for her recovery.
