The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the release of provisional results for 37,825 candidates who participated in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for NOV/DEC Candidates, 2023, Second Series.

According to a statement issued in Accra and signed by the Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, the entry figure comprised 17,389 males and 20,725 females, with an additional 16 visually impaired candidates.

However, the statement noted that 1,231 registered candidates were absent for the examination.

“The results of 289 candidates alleged to have been involved in various cases of examination malpractice have been withheld, pending the conclusion of investigations into the cases of malpractice. These malpractices include collusion, impersonation, bringing foreign materials, including mobile phones, into the examination hall, and seeking external assistance, among others.”

“The withheld results of candidates will be released or cancelled based on the outcome of investigations,” it said.

Read full communiqué below:

In addition to releasing the results, WAEC cautioned the public against fraudulent individuals who falsely promise to upgrade candidates’ results for a fee, often payable through mobile money transfers. This warning serves to protect candidates from falling victim to scams.

“Candidates are to note that WAEC’s results database is well-secured and all results can be authenticated. Institutions and organisations are therefore advised to confirm or verify results presented to them directly from WAEC, access the confirmation/verification service online at the WAEC website, or download the WAEC QR Code,” it said.

Read caution below:

Furthermore, WAEC expressed its appreciation to all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the examination and the subsequent release of results. This includes heads of schools who provided accommodation, supervisors, invigilators, examiners, and other partners whose support was instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of the examination process.
