A coalition of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2017 to 2024 has thrown its weight behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential bid for the 2028 elections.
Operating under the name Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr. Bawumia, the group held a press conference at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Monday, June 23, declaring a “strong, unshaken endorsement” of the former Vice President.
They described their support as not only symbolic but also a “strategic and operational commitment.”
Citing Dr. Bawumia’s leadership on key digital and financial reforms—including the Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability, and digitisation of ports—the Forum said he emerged as the most competent and visionary candidate after wide consultations with aspirants and stakeholders.
They further praised him as a unifier with strong grassroots and youth appeal, positioning him as the NPP’s best hope of regaining power in 2028.
The Forum announced plans to activate extensive political networks, launch door-to-door campaigns, fundraise, and combat misinformation to energise his campaign. “We are not just endorsing—we are activating our networks,” they concluded.
