The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has condemned the government’s revocation of appointments made after December 7, 2024, calling it a contradiction of the NDC’s job creation policy.
Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, he questioned President Mahama’s decision, stating, “So what happened, Mr. President?”
He further criticized the directive, saying, “The revocation directive lacks legal justification.”
The Minority in Parliament also opposed the decision, asserting that “the mere date of appointment does not validate termination.”
Nana Boakye expressed concern over the livelihoods of affected individuals, emphasizing that they are not just statistics but “fathers, mothers, and breadwinners.”
He noted that the revocation includes recruits into the military, police, and customs, urging them to petition against President Mahama’s directive.
He added, “Mahama cannot revoke appointments of these recruitments, just as Akufo-Addo did not.”
He reassured those affected that the NPP would back any legal efforts to overturn what he described as an unconstitutional decision.
The government, through a circular issued by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, has directed ministries, departments, and agencies to annul all such appointments, citing non-compliance with good governance practices.
Heads of government institutions have been instructed to submit reports on the revocation by February 17, 2025.
However, Nana Boakye insisted that the NPP would “fully support any legal action to undo any illegality” and confirmed that he has already taken legal steps, stating, “I am already in court; I have directed my lawyers. They are in court to challenge the unconstitutional act of revocation.”
