Ghana’s U-20 men’s national team, the Black Satellites, are set to begin residential camping on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, in Accra as preparations intensify for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for April 26 to May 18 in Egypt.
The squad, led by head coach Desmond Ofei, returns from a short break after featuring in a competitive three-nation invitational tournament in Rabat, Morocco, where they gained valuable match experience against top youth sides on the continent.
The team will be camped at the Erata Hotel in Accra, which will serve as their base for the next phase of preparation. The training program is expected to be rigorous and comprehensive, with a focus on tactical discipline, physical conditioning, and team chemistry.
To enhance match sharpness, the technical team has also lined up a series of friendly matches, offering players the opportunity to stake a claim for a spot in the final tournament squad while allowing coaches to fine-tune strategies and formations.
Ghana has been drawn in Group A of the tournament, where they will face Cote d’Ivoire, Tanzania, DR Congo, and a yet-to-be-confirmed UNIFFAC representative. The group is expected to be fiercely contested, but the Black Satellites remain optimistic about their chances of progressing and challenging for the title.
With four U-20 AFCON titles under their belt (1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021), as well as a historic FIFA U-20 World Cup victory in 2009, the Black Satellites have a proud legacy to uphold. The upcoming tournament presents an opportunity for this new generation to carve their own path in Ghana’s rich football history.
