Ghanaian forward Inaki Williams has been named Sporty LaLiga Africa’s Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive season, reaffirming his status as one of the continent’s standout performers in Spanish football.

The 30-year-old Athletic Bilbao star received the honour for the 2024/25 LaLiga campaign, fending off competition from Villarreal’s Pape Gueye and Osasuna’s Enzo Boyomo. The award, presented in Spain, celebrates the most impactful African player in the league over the course of the season.

Williams enjoyed another influential campaign with Bilbao, making 35 appearances in LaLiga, scoring six goals and providing eight assists. His dynamic wing play, relentless pressing, and leadership on and off the pitch were vital to Bilbao’s attacking threat and overall consistency throughout the season.

This back-to-back recognition follows his initial MVP win in the 2023/24 season and highlights his sustained performance at the top level.

Born in Spain to Ghanaian parents, Inaki Williams made the decision to represent Ghana internationally in 2022. Since switching his allegiance, he has earned 22 caps and scored two goals for the Black Stars, becoming a regular fixture in the national setup.

Despite his continued club excellence, Williams has not been included in Ghana’s 23-man squad for the 2025 Unity Cup in London. Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has opted to use the four-nation tournament — which also features Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago — to assess younger and emerging players, as well as returnees seeking to re-establish their place in the team.

Williams’ back-to-back MVP award underscores his continued influence in LaLiga and his role as a global ambassador for Ghanaian football. His consistency, professionalism, and performance at the highest level continue to inspire young players across the continent.
