Stephen Ayesu Ntim, the National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially stepped down from his position, citing health concerns.
A statement issued by his family confirmed that following a recent meeting, they advised him to take a complete break from active politics and internal party activities with immediate effect.
The family’s letter, addressed to the party’s national leadership, urged the NPP to excuse Mr. Ntim from all political engagements, including a scheduled National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting he was expected to chair.
“Common sense dictates that, Steve, as a matter of urgency, be temporarily excused not only from the rigors of active politics but from intra-party activities in order to make way for needed peace and solace and for concentration on the ongoing required medical treatment process,” the letter emphasized.
The development raises questions about succession and leadership continuity within the NPP as the party gears up for the upcoming 2025 general elections. Party insiders say discussions are already underway on how to manage the vacancy in the short term.
