Akwatia Member of Parliament, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has weighed in on the vacant Kpandai parliamentary seat, emphasizing that voters are more concerned with the ability of their MPs to deliver development than the partisan numbers in Parliament.

Speaking on ABC In The Morning, Mr. Baidoo argued that while the NDC holds a majority in Parliament, constituents across the country, including those in Kpandai, are focused on getting representation that addresses their local needs.

Reacting to questions on the NDC’s parliamentary majority and the need to assert control, he noted, “It is not about the numbers in Parliament. We are individual constituencies, and every constituency has its peculiar problems. Constituents pray they get them solved.”

He further explained that the partisan composition of Parliament is secondary to the electorate’s primary concern: effective representation. “Beyond the partisan numbers that NDC has this, NPP has this, the people in the constituency are looking for representation that would help them,” he said.

Mr. Baidoo stressed that voters often prefer MPs who are aligned with the party in government, believing that such MPs are better positioned to bring development projects and resources to their constituencies. “The reality is that electorates want MPs with presidents in government,” he added.

The Kpandai parliamentary seat was declared vacant by the Parliamentary Service on December 4, 2025, following a High Court ruling in Tamale. The declaration has set the stage for a by-election, drawing national attention as both major political parties prepare to contest the seat.

Meanwhile, the Kpandai by-election will show whether voters care more about party affiliation or about electing MPs who, as incumbents with the support of the President, can truly deliver development and address problems in their communities.
