NPP Delegates See Kennedy Agyapong as Bold but Risky – Global InfoAnalytics Analyst

Senior Analyst at Global InfoAnalytics, Salam Nsiah, has revealed that while a significant number of New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates admire Kennedy Agyapong’s grassroots appeal and outspoken nature, many also consider his style a potential risk if he wins the party’s presidential primary going into the 2028 general election.

Speaking on ABC in the Morning, Nsiah explained that delegates view the former Assin Central MP as a politician who connects easily with the party base and speaks his mind without restraint. However, he noted that this same trait is raising concerns among delegates who fear it could sometimes go “overboard” and pose electoral risks.

“Much as people see Ken as a grassroots person who speaks his mind, sometimes delegates feel he can go a bit overboard and they see it as being risky,” Nsiah stated.

Sharing insights from Global InfoAnalytics’ comparative analysis of voting trends within the party, Nsiah indicated that changes in delegate preferences have reshaped the internal dynamics of the race since 2023. According to him, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has seen his support drop by four percentage points, while Kennedy Agyapong has experienced a sharper decline of nine points.

“These drops have largely benefitted Bryan, who appears to be gaining from the shifting support,” Nsiah noted.

Despite the declines, Nsiah said projections still place Dr. Bawumia firmly in the lead. He explained that should the former Vice President outperform Global InfoAnalytics’ predictions, he could approach the 60 per cent mark, while Kennedy Agyapong is likely to secure about 31 per cent of the votes.

The analyst also highlighted a key strategic consideration influencing delegate choices ahead of the 2028 general elections. According to Nsiah, about 45 per cent of NPP delegates believe that maintaining continuity by repeating the party’s previous presidential candidate could enhance the party’s chances of winning power in 2028.

The comments from Global Infoanalytics’ Senior Analyst provide a clearer picture of the considerations shaping delegate preferences as the NPP edges closer to choosing its presidential flagbearer.
