Communications Aide to the Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum campaign, Albert Anderson, has asserted that the much-debated Double-Track Senior High School system was the sole idea of Dr. Adutwum, describing it as a bold intervention that ensured no qualified student was denied access to secondary education.

Speaking on ABC In The Morning, Mr. Anderson said Dr. Adutwum’s impact on Ghana’s education sector remains one of the most significant achievements of the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration.

“When Dr. Adutwum was appointed Minister of Education, he excelled beyond every imagination and expectation,” Mr. Anderson stated. “Anytime we speak about President Akufo-Addo’s achievements, we start with education.”

According to him, the success stories associated with the education sector under the erstwhile administration cannot be told without highlighting the role played by Dr. Adutwum, who at the time served first as Deputy Minister before becoming substantive Minister.

“And who held the fort in education for us to be proudly mentioning these achievements? It is Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum,” he stressed.

Mr. Anderson explained that the Double-Track system was conceived at a critical moment when the Free SHS policy led to increased enrollment, putting pressure on existing infrastructure.

“Dr. Adutwum, as Deputy Minister of Education, suggested to his boss then, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and also to the President at Cabinet that we could not allow students who had passed their exams to stay at home,” he explained. “Everybody who passed deserved the chance to attend senior high school, and for that matter, we had to introduce what we now call the Double-Track system.”

He said the policy demonstrated Dr. Adutwum’s forward-thinking leadership and commitment to inclusive education.

Touching on Dr. Adutwum’s personal contributions beyond government, Mr. Anderson revealed that the educationist-turned-politician has invested heavily in human capital development in his Bosomtwe constituency.

“From his personal coffers, Dr. Adutwum has raised over 100 engineers and more than 30 medical doctors from Bosomtwe,” he disclosed, describing the gesture as a testament to the former Education Minister’s passion for education and national development.

Mr. Anderson noted that these achievements position Dr. Adutwum as a strong contender in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries, particularly among delegates who value experience, innovation, and results-driven leadership
