The newly elected parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for Ayawaso East, Baba Jamal, has challenged election pollsters to sharpen their forecasting methods, following his victory in the party’s parliamentary primaries.
Addressing the media after securing the nomination, Baba Jamal said he was taken aback by pre-primary opinion polls that projected a different outcome. He noted that the results exposed a clear gap between some polling data and the actual sentiments of party delegates on the ground.
Speaking to TV3’s Joseph Armstrong Gold-Alorgbey, Baba Jamal said he remained confident of winning the contest from the start, stressing that the projections failed to capture the political realities within the constituency. According to him, the outcome should serve as a lesson to polling institutions to strengthen their research approaches to ensure greater credibility in future elections.
Turning his attention to the upcoming Ayawaso East by-election scheduled for March 3, Baba Jamal expressed strong confidence in the NDC’s chances, describing the constituency as a traditional stronghold of the party. He dismissed the New Patriotic Party’s prospects, insisting that the NPP stands little chance of overturning the seat.
He also appealed to party members and supporters to close ranks ahead of the by-election, emphasizing that unity would be key to not only retaining the seat but also expanding the party’s vote margin.
Baba Jamal reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with stakeholders across Ayawaso East to consolidate the NDC’s base and deliver a commanding victory in the forthcoming by-election.
