The ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at Awutu Senya Senior High School “B” Centre in Senya Beraku has recorded seven pregnant candidates, with one of them delivering a baby girl on Tuesday morning.
The newborn is currently in an incubator, while the mother, who is a candidate, has resumed writing her examinations.
According to information gathered from internal invigilators, a supervisor from Cape Coast who visited the centre for monitoring allegedly exerted pressure on the candidate, which may have contributed to the early delivery.
In an interview with Bryt tv during a monitoring exercise by the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Awutu Senya West, Hon. Kalala Eghan Nyamekye, and the Deputy Director of Education in charge of Finance and Administration, Mr. James Kofi Abbam Cann, confirmed the situation.
He stated that although he was aware of three pregnant candidates, he believes the number could be higher, and confirmed that one candidate has delivered.
Mr. Abbam Cann added that despite the situation, the examination process has been peaceful, with no form of intimidation from invigilators at the centre.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive for Awutu Senya West, Hon. Kalala Eghan Nyamekye, has encouraged all candidates—especially the pregnant students, to remain focused and complete their examinations successfully, describing them as the future leaders of the country.
He also urged invigilators to maintain professionalism and avoid any form of intimidation in the examination hall.
