Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has pledged to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) back to power in the 2028 elections if elected as the party’s National Chairman.
Mr Agyarko made the declaration after a group of NPP constituency chairpersons led by former Ayawaso West Wuogon MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, picked and presented nomination forms to him to contest the party’s National Chairperson position.
Speaking after receiving the forms, Mr Agyarko thanked the constituency chairpersons for demonstrating confidence in his leadership and described their support as a strong indication of the party’s determination to regroup ahead of the 2028 elections.
“I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to Constituency Chairmen who purchased and picked this form for me and those who accompanied them. I’m truly humbled by this gesture. Chairmen, I’m truly grateful,” he said.
He urged party members not to be discouraged by the NPP’s current political fortunes, insisting that the party still has the capacity to bounce back.
“To the rest of the NPP fraternity, let me assure you that this party shall rise again. This party may have gone down, but we’re not out. With dedication and commitment…we will rise again,” he added.
Mr Agyarko said his immediate focus, if elected National Chairman, would be to strengthen the party’s structures and transform it into a formidable electoral organisation capable of delivering victory in 2028.
“My task as a chairman is to lead in the rebuilding and rebranding of the party into a solid electoral machine upon which our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will stand firmly and win the 2028 election with ease,” he said.
His nomination comes as several NPP figures position themselves for key leadership roles ahead of the party’s next national elections.
The former Energy Minister is seeking to secure the National Chairperson position on a platform centred on rebuilding the party, restoring its electoral strength and preparing the NPP for a return to government in 2028.
