The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has warned transport unions, station executives and commercial vehicle operators against charging passengers unapproved fares in the Kumasi Metropolis.
The warning follows concerns over the recent charging of what the Assembly describes as illegal transport fares with some passengers reportedly being asked to pay additional amounts on certain routes.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 17, 2026, the KMA said the charging of unapproved transport fares is illegal and highly unacceptable.

The Assembly has consequently cautioned transport unions, particularly station executives and drivers to desist from charging fares that have not been officially approved.
The directive comes amid confusion among some commuters over the implementation of revised transport fares with reports of passengers being charged additional amounts by some commercial vehicle operators.
The KMA says an enforcement taskforce will soon visit various transport unions and stations across the metropolis to ensure that operators comply with the law.
It has further warned that transport operating permits issued by the Assembly could be revoked immediately if operators are found charging unapproved fares.
Transport executives at both regional and branch levels have also been urged to ensure that station officers and drivers comply with the directive.
The Assembly says the move is aimed at ensuring that transport operators adhere to approved fares and protecting commuters from arbitrary charges.
The KMA has urged transport unions and operators to seek clarification from the Assembly on approved fares and comply with the directive.
The statement was issued by the Public Relations Unit of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.
