Surveillance footage has emerged showing two unidentified individuals removing a large black bag from the boot of a white saloon car, believed to contain the body of 24-year-old Ghanaian Joseph Owusu, onto a pavement in the Bronx, New York.
The footage, sighted on Friday, November 6, 2026, and shared by American broadcaster ABC7, captures the individuals unloading the bag from the vehicle under the cover of darkness before dragging it onto the pavement and driving away.
A separate surveillance recording from the following day shows another man placing the bag on a metal stretcher and wheeling it away from the location.
Owusu’s body was later discovered by a man searching for scrap metal. His family and Ghanaian officials subsequently identified him as the deceased.
The circumstances surrounding his death have left his family devastated, with his brother, Kojo Yeboah, calling for justice and demanding answers about what led to the incident.
“I need justice for Joseph. I want the truth to come out because my brother didn’t deserve to die the way he did. He’s only 24. He had a lot of living to do,” he said.
Yeboah, who was shown the surveillance recordings, disclosed that he had watched the footage several times but was unable to recognise the individuals captured removing his brother’s body.
“No, I don’t recognise anybody. I wish, but these people are just people I’ve never seen before,” he said.
He added that he had shared the recordings with his brother’s friends in the hope that someone might identify the individuals or provide information that could assist the investigation.
Describing Owusu, Yeboah said his brother was well-loved and had a strong passion for music and the church.
He revealed that the 24-year-old served as an organist at their church in the Bronx and regularly spent several hours practising the piano to perfect his performances.
“He was loved by everyone. He would play the piano for hours and hours and just make sure that he didn’t make a mistake,” he recalled.
According to the family, Owusu also worked providing direct support to people with disabilities while pursuing studies in computer science.
His brother said the family was finding it difficult to come to terms with the sudden loss, particularly because Owusu had been an important part of their everyday lives.
Yeboah further disclosed that he was trying to remain strong for their mother, who has been deeply affected by the tragedy.
The family is appealing for justice as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Owusu’s death and efforts to establish the identities of the individuals captured in the surveillance footage.
Owusu’s reported death comes just days after 15-year-old Ghanaian Javits Frimpong was also shot dead in the Bronx, New York.
