The New Patriotic Party (NPP) orchestrated a Constituency Delegates Conference on Sunday, January 21, 2024, with the primary objective of endorsing unopposed aspiring parliamentary candidates. Adhering to Article 7(31) of the NPP’s constitution, the delegates in Tolon, Northern Region, unanimously expressed their support for Habib Iddrisu’s bid for a second term in Parliament through popular acclamation.
The gathering, conducted at the Sari Conference Hall, witnessed the enthusiastic participation of thousands of delegates. Under the supervision of Tolon Electoral Commission (EC) District Officer, Ben Teye, the event symbolized a unified endorsement of Habib Iddrisu as the parliamentary candidate, showcasing a strong and consolidated front within the party.
This extraordinary conference exemplifies the democratic processes within the NPP, where unopposed candidates receive an unequivocal endorsement from party delegates. The event not only affirms support for the aspiring parliamentary candidate but also underscores the party’s commitment to internal cohesion and a harmonious selection of candidates in the lead-up to elections.
“As many endorse the candidature of the honorable Habib Iddrisu, say I. The crowd cheered “I” in confirmation of the parliamentary candidate.”
All present delegates and party members shouted “I” in unison when the EC Officer asked if they supported the MP.
Frank Annor Dompreh, the current Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri and the Majority Chief Whip, commended Tolon’s legislator as a valuable asset. He attributed the legislator’s substantial contributions to many achievements in parliament.
“If there has been any success chalked in parliament, Habib played a role. In this context, as the saying goes, behind every successful whip is a deputy whip.”
“This is my first time coming to my colleague Honorable Habib’s constituency, but I can feel his popularity on my skin. Don’t take your member of parliament for granted; he is probably the first MP to be in leadership in his first term.”
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tolon and second deputy majority chief whip lauded the Extraordinary Constituency Delegates Conference in Tolon as a powerful demonstration of unity and collective spirit within the constituency. He urged all constituency executives to unite, emphasizing the crucial role of unity in achieving success.
“In 2020, we won 75 out of 129 polling stations with a parliamentary gap of 9,280. This time we aim higher; we must win every polling station.”
Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming confidence and support he received, the MP commended constituents for allowing him to go unopposed in the internal parliamentary contest. He underscored the importance of this unity in advancing the party’s goals.
The MP also called upon the delegates to work towards securing a resounding victory for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming 2024 elections.
Similar confirmatory events were held in Karaga, Gushegu, Bimbila, and Tatale-Sanguli constituencies in the Northern Region, where parliamentary candidates were officially endorsed by their respective constituencies. These events reflect the party’s commitment to solidifying its candidates’ positions and fostering a sense of cohesion and support within the NPP ahead of the upcoming elections.
