Dr. Samuel Sarpong Ankrah, leader of the Alternative Force for Action (AFA), has vowed to make the Ministry of Justice independent from the Attorney General’s office if elected as President.
He emphasized that political interference has hindered proper governance in the country, and his administration would ensure a constitutional amendment within the first 90 days to make these justice institutions autonomous.
“We will decouple the Ministry of Justice from the Attorney General, and the IGP will be independently appointed,” Dr. Ankrah stated, outlining his vision for a judiciary free from executive control.
Dr. Ankrah announced that AFA’s manifesto will be launched on September 21, 2024, ahead of the December 7 presidential election.
“Real tangible project policy programs will be announced on the day, and our Vice President will be revealed in due course,” he mentioned. He urged Ghanaians to reconsider their voting decisions, citing the need for competent leadership.
“We are ready to take over the government, and we are pleading with Ghanaians to sit back for a minute, start thinking about issues, and make the right decision this time around,” Dr. Ankrah added.
Criticizing the nation’s current political landscape, Dr. Ankrah expressed his disapproval of the two major political parties, the NDC and NPP, for their failure to address the pressing issues facing Ghana. He highlighted the mismanagement of the cocoa industry as a prime example of how politics has failed the country.
“Our style of politics has messed us up,” he remarked, noting that while the cocoa industry is valued at GHS300 billion, Ghana only receives GHS6 billion. Dr. Ankrah also lamented the decline in cocoa production and the lack of critical questions being asked about it.
Dr. Ankrah also raised concerns about the oil sector, accusing both the NDC and NPP of making decisions that favor a select few rather than the nation as a whole.
“Decisions are being taken by parties, which, as an expert, are worrying,” he stated.
As part of his campaign strategy, Dr. Ankrah emphasized direct engagement with the public, recounting his interactions with Shea Butter women in Damongo as a testament to the importance of understanding the realities on the ground.
