A military officer from the 11 Mechanised Battalion based in Bawku has tragically died in a road accident near Binduri, Upper East Region.
The fatal crash occurred as the officer and five others were traveling in a military vehicle, registered 15 GA 04, from Bawku to Bazua.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the vehicle lost control, veered off the road, and somersaulted multiple times, leading to a violent crash.
The impact was immediate, claiming the life of one officer at the scene.
The five surviving officers were left in critical condition and required urgent medical assistance. Emergency services quickly arrived to transport the injured personnel to nearby hospitals.
Two of the injured officers were taken to Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, while the others were transferred to Tamale Teaching Hospital for specialized treatment.
The accident has raised concerns over the safety of military personnel on the region’s roads, especially those on duty in high-risk areas like Bawku.
The cause of the crash is yet to be determined, but the loss has shaken both the military and local community.
Authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the accident, and road safety authorities have called for stricter measures to ensure the protection of military personnel while in transit.
