A student from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), affiliated with Unity Hall (Conti), is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after being stabbed multiple times during a violent altercation at a New Patriotic Party (NPP) “Thank You” tour event held at the Bantama Pentecost Church in the Ashanti Region.
The incident occurred on Tuesday when a Jama group from Unity Hall, hired by the camp of former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong to energize the event, clashed with a group of gun-wielding men believed to be NPP members.
According to eyewitnesses, the scuffle began after a wealthy associate of Kennedy Agyapong dashed money to the Jama group.
The armed men allegedly appeared and forcefully took the cash, prompting resistance from the students. Gunshots were fired during the chaos, and one member of the Jama group was stabbed and rushed to the hospital’s emergency unit.
Kennedy Agyapong and his team have since filed an official complaint with the Kumasi Central Police Command. As of now, no arrests have been made.
The incident casts a shadow over the ongoing NPP “Thank You” tour, which is meant to celebrate grassroots support but has instead raised concerns over internal tensions and safety at party events.
