Former Education Minister and current Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has formally declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The announcement was made via his official Facebook page on Tuesday, signaling the start of what many expect to be a competitive internal race within the governing party.
In his post, Dr. Adutwum stated, “With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the Flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party.”
The declaration has already stirred conversation within political circles, as the Bosomtwe MP is widely known for his education reform efforts and technocratic approach to governance.
He joins a growing list of prominent party stalwarts who have either declared or are expected to declare their intentions to contest for the NPP presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Among the publicly known figures are the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong; the former Vice President of the Republic, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; the Member of Parliament for Abetifi and former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Bryan Acheampong; and the former Minister for Energy, Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko.
