The Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, has disclosed that close to 90,000 individuals have applied for recruitment into Ghana’s security services, with only 12,000 available positions.
This comes after the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and Ghana Immigration Service concluded their recruitment drive, which was open from 7 August to 13 August 2024.
In an interview, Mr. Quartey expressed his surprise at the overwhelming number of applications received, which reflects the keen interest in joining the security services.
“As of two days ago, there were close to 90,000 applications. That is the report I received from the security agencies handling the recruitment,” he stated.
However, Mr. Quartey emphasized that with Parliament’s approved budget, only about 12,000 new personnel can be recruited.
He noted that the security agencies would rigorously apply their eligibility criteria to select qualified candidates from the vast pool of applicants, acknowledging the highly competitive nature of the process.
“So all this 80,000, it’s up to the security agencies to use their eligibility criteria to be able to select who qualifies to actually be admitted,” he added.
