Suspected armed robbers launched a daring attack on the Sehwi Asafo Police Station in the Sehwi Wiawso Municipality, escaping with an AK-47 rifle, several rounds of ammunition, and other critical police equipment.
The break-in, which occurred late last night, saw the assailants allegedly scale an iron-gated window to access the station’s armoury before making their escape in the Western North Region.
Initial investigations suggest the robbers were highly organized and possibly familiar with the security setup of the police station. Reports indicate that officers on duty were caught off guard, though no casualties were recorded.
The assailants also looted other police property before fleeing the scene.
Following the police station attack, the armed robbers proceeded to the residence of a Catholic priest. According to eyewitness accounts, shots were fired during the incident, but no injuries were reported.
Authorities believe the group may have been on a larger crime spree, raising security concerns in the municipality.
The police have since launched an intensive investigation to track down the perpetrators, with additional security measures being put in place at other police stations in the region. Meanwhile, the inspector in charge of the Sehwi Asafo Police Station has been interdicted pending further investigations into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
