A section of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Women’s Wing in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency of the Ashanti Region has petitioned the party’s regional and national leadership over what they describe as alleged abuse of office, intimidation and unfair treatment by the Constituency Secretary, Mr. Luqman Abdul Mumuni.
The aggrieved women who staged a protest to register their displeasure accused the Constituency Secretary of manipulating the party’s internal electoral processes by allegedly removing the names of some members from the party’s Green Book, thereby preventing them from participating in branch elections.
According to the protesters, Mr. Mumuni has also centralized the distribution of opportunities and benefits associated with the party’s return to government, allegedly denying committed members access to employment opportunities, protocols and other benefits while favouring individuals they claim did not contribute significantly to the party’s electoral victory.
Speaking to the media, Madam Gifty Deborah Kubina, a member of the Women’s Wing, alleged that she was unfairly prevented from filing her nomination to contest for the position of Branch Women’s Organizer.
She described the action as a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise her and appealed to the Ashanti Regional and National Executives of the NDC to intervene and ensure fairness in the party’s internal electoral processes.
Another member, Madam Mary Marfo, made allegations of sexual misconduct against the Constituency Secretary. She claimed that some women who approached him for assistance in securing employment and other government-related opportunities were sexually exploited.
Madam Marfo called on the party leadership to institute an immediate investigation into the allegations and take appropriate action if the claims are substantiated. She warned that such conduct, if left unchecked could undermine confidence in the party and discourage loyal members.
Madam Comfort Agyemang also accused Mr. Mumuni of rewarding individuals who allegedly played little or no role in the party’s 2024 election campaign while neglecting committed grassroots members who worked tirelessly to secure the NDC’s electoral victory.
The protesting women are therefore calling on the Ashanti Regional and National leadership of the NDC to investigate their grievances, address what they describe as growing injustice within the constituency and restore fairness, transparency and unity.
As of the time of filing this report, Mr. Luqman Abdul Mumuni had not publicly responded to the allegations. The claims remain allegations, and he is entitled to respond to them.
