Grassroots leaders and concerned aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency have called on the party’s National Steering Committee to take urgent steps to resolve the prolonged impasse surrounding the constituency’s internal elections.

At a press briefing in Accra, the group expressed frustration over what it described as months of stagnation, warning that continued delays could undermine the party’s organisational preparedness ahead of the 2028 general elections.

According to the group, a fully compiled and verified electoral area album has already been completed and remains the legitimate basis for conducting the constituency elections. They said the album, which covers all 13 electoral areas, was painstakingly compiled and accurately reflects the constituency’s membership.

Despite this, the constituency’s electoral process has remained stalled due to a series of legal challenges and interim injunctions.

While acknowledging the constitutional right of party members to seek legal redress, the grassroots leaders accused some individuals of using the courts to deliberately frustrate the electoral process rather than allow party members to choose their leaders.

“It has become evident that certain individuals, fearful of facing the collective democratic will of the party base, are utilizing meritless litigation simply to delay accountability at the ballot box,” the Grassroots Leadership and Concerned Aspirants said.

The group also disclosed that before the legal challenges emerged, several attempts had been made to resolve disagreements through internal consultations and stakeholder engagements. However, they alleged that those pursuing the injunctions refused to participate in the reconciliation efforts, choosing instead to pursue legal action.

The constituency leaders maintained that the delegates’ album is accurate, authentic and representative of the party’s membership, insisting that all the necessary requirements for a credible, free and transparent election have already been met.

They therefore argued that there are no factual or legal grounds to justify any further postponement of the constituency elections.

Describing Ayawaso West Wuogon as a strategically important constituency for the NPP’s 2028 electoral ambitions, the group warned that allowing the stalemate to persist would weaken the party’s internal structures and grassroots mobilisation.

They consequently appealed to the NPP National Steering Committee to intervene by treating the pending court actions as attempts to obstruct the party’s internal democratic processes and to immediately fix a date for the constituency elections, proposing Saturday, July 25, 2026, as the preferred date.

The group said bringing the impasse to an end would help restore confidence among party members, promote unity within the constituency and enable newly elected officers to begin preparations for the party’s future electoral activities.
