Vice President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Clement Boateng, has advised Ghanaians to patronize traders who have responded to calls to reduce prices.
Speaking on ABC Morning, Mr. Boateng noted that while some members of the union have complied, others have not, due to the competitive nature of the market.
“A number of our members have reduced their prices, because the market we are in is very comparative,” he said.
He urged consumers to support the traders who have adjusted their prices downward as a way of encouraging fair pricing in the system.
Mr. Boateng acknowledged the limitations of GUTA’s influence over all traders, stating, “There are some members who will not heed to our call.”
He also appealed to the government to implement sustainable measures to stabilize the Ghana cedi, which he said is crucial to preventing future price increases.
His comments come in the wake of the Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism’s decision to summon some trade unions over concerns about their failure to reduce prices despite recent economic adjustments.
