Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is set to report back to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
Wontumi appeared at the CID Headquarters in Accra on Monday, May 26, accompanied by a legal team led by former Attorney General Godfred Dame.
According to a press release from Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Head of Public Affairs at CID, Wontumi faces three charges: undertaking mining operations without a license, polluting water bodies, and entering a forest reserve without authorization.
The statement further noted that Chairman Wontumi cooperated fully with investigators, providing his statement before being granted bail.
He is expected to report again at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday as investigations continue.
The police have assured the public that they will provide updates on the case as it unfolds, heightening the political tension surrounding one of the ruling party’s most vocal regional leaders.
