The Coalition Against Illegal Mining has leveled serious allegations against two National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairpersons in Axim and Dunkwa, accusing them of deep involvement in illegal mining activities.
At a press briefing today, the group condemned what it described as “hypocrisy” within the NDC, citing a disconnect between the party’s public stance against galamsey and the alleged actions of its local officials.
“While the NDC leadership publicly condemns illegal mining, some of their local officials are allegedly profiting from it,” the group stated.
The Coalition called for an urgent probe into the activities of the two chairpersons as well as Hon. Oscar Larbi, whose name was also mentioned.
“We demand an immediate investigation by the Police and National Security,” they urged, adding that transparency must guide the process.
The Coalition stressed that political affiliation should not serve as a shield against the law, warning against selective justice in the fight against illegal mining.
They further demanded “a transparent prosecution with no political interference,” emphasizing the need for credibility and fairness in the handling of such cases.
According to the group, they have already submitted the names of three persons in the ruling government involved in galamsey and now want the opposition figures implicated to also face justice.
