Renowned economist Professor Patrick Asuming has cautioned the government against relying solely on the sinking fund to manage Ghana’s rising debt.
Speaking on Business News Update on Monday, February 17, he emphasized that “the fund alone will not be enough to address the nation’s growing financial obligations.”
His warning follows former President Mahama’s announcement at the Munich Security Conference that his administration has reactivated the sinking fund for debt repayments.
While acknowledging the fund’s importance, Professor Asuming urged the government to explore alternative debt management strategies.
He stressed that a more comprehensive approach is needed to prevent further economic distress.
