The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 36-year-old businessman from East Legon in Accra over allegations of drug-facilitated sexual abuse and the unlawful circulation of intimate videos online.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, was apprehended on May 6, 2026, during a coordinated intelligence-led operation conducted by the Cyber Crime Unit of the CID together with the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Addressing journalists on Tuesday during a media briefing on recent criminal investigation successes, CID Director-General, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, disclosed that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to a Telegram channel allegedly used to distribute explicit content without the consent of victims.
According to the police, the platform, identified as “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025,” was allegedly used to share videos and images involving women who were reportedly drugged before being sexually assaulted.
Commissioner Donkor explained that investigators suspect the accused used substances such as alprazolam, widely known as Xanax, to sedate victims, many of whom were allegedly targeted at nightclubs and entertainment spots in 2025.
Police further alleged that the suspect recorded the acts and later shared the materials online without the victims’ knowledge or approval.
A search conducted during the arrest led to the retrieval of several electronic devices and other materials believed to be relevant to the investigation. These included two iPhones, a feature phone, a MacBook laptop, a memory card, an external hard drive, an iSafe device, and empty sachets suspected to have contained controlled substances, including alprazolam and midazolam.
The CID said the electronic gadgets have been secured for forensic analysis, while the sachets have been forwarded to the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) for examination and confirmation.
The suspect has since been arraigned before court, with police indicating that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
The Ghana Police Service has meanwhile reaffirmed its resolve to combat cyber-enabled sexual exploitation and abuse and encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities through the appropriate law enforcement channels.
