The Electoral Commission (EC) has affirmed its readiness for the upcoming district-level elections slated for Tuesday, December 19.
According to the latest figures from the Electoral Commission, about 66,257 individuals are vying for positions in both the assembly and unit committee categories in the local polls.
The breakdown includes 18,755 assembly member candidates and 47,502 unit committee member candidates, competing across 6,215 electoral areas within 216 metropolitan, municipal, and district assemblies.
The Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo assured that arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth running of the elections. He emphasized that all necessary preparations have been made to avert any shortages of electoral materials at polling stations come Tuesday.
“Except for the ballot papers, all materials are available. When we dispatch, it’s a complete delivery; we don’t engage in partial deliveries. Therefore, we do not anticipate shortages,” stated Dr. Sereboe Quarcoo during an interview with reporters.
“However, in the event of unforeseen circumstances, the district office will promptly address any shortages,” he added.
