Assembly Members in the Ejisu Municipality have reportedly petitioned the Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) and issued a two-week ultimatum to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), demanding the implementation of a court ruling concerning developments on wetlands and waterlogged areas within the municipality.
According to Hon. Sahene, the Assembly Member for Abenease Electoral Area, the court ordered that structures situated in waterlogged areas be demolished and that sand used to reclaim wetlands for construction purposes be removed. He said the matter was subsequently discussed at a general assembly meeting where members agreed that the court’s directives should be fully enforced.
Hon. Sahene stated that assembly members are dissatisfied with what they describe as the delay in implementing the ruling and have therefore given the MCE a two-week deadline to ensure compliance.
He warned that should the MCE fail to act within the stipulated period, assembly members may take further action, including initiating a vote of no confidence against her.
The Abenease Assembly Member also disclosed that members raised concerns over funds they had expected to receive. According to him, assembly members later discovered that the money had allegedly been used to purchase roofing sheets for the MCE. He said the matter has generated dissatisfaction among members and has become one of the issues contributing to the growing tension within the assembly.
Additionally, Hon. Sahene indicated that several assembly chairs are in poor condition and not fit for proper use, a situation that reportedly angered many members during the meeting.
Despite the concerns raised, he stressed that the most pressing issue remains the implementation of the court ruling on wetlands and waterlogged areas which assembly members believe should be carried out without further delay.
At the time of filing this report, the Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive had not responded to the allegations and concerns raised by the assembly members. The claims made by Hon. Sahene have not been independently verified, and efforts to obtain the MCE’s response are ongoing.
The developments are expected to attract significant public attention as assembly members await action on both the court ruling and the concerns raised during their recent meeting.
