The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set an ambitious goal of securing 28 to 30 parliamentary seats in the Eastern Region in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

Currently holding 25 out of the region’s 33 constituencies, the party aims to consolidate its dominance by leveraging its track record in developmental projects and grassroots mobilization.

Speaking during the party’s “Final Walk” in Kwahu-Abetifi, NPP General Secretary Justin Frempong Kodua emphasized the importance of voter vigilance and peaceful conduct on election day.

He encouraged supporters to rally behind Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, whom he described as the custodian of the Free SHS policy, urging them to ensure its continuation.

Addressing the gathering, MP for Abuakwa South, Samuel Attah Akyea, highlighted the strategic importance of the Eastern Region in shaping the composition of parliament.

He called on party faithful to ensure a decisive majority in parliament to enable smooth governance. “We need the majority in parliament, and it is up to you in the Eastern Region to make that possible,” he said.

Attah Akyea also cautioned against voting inconsistencies, such as “skirt and blouse,” urging voters to prioritize party unity.

He dismissed criticism of the government’s economic record, citing global economic crises as a mitigating factor, and assured the crowd of the party’s focus on revitalizing the economy.

With less than a month to the December 7 polls, the NPP is intensifying its campaign in the Eastern Region, a critical stronghold for the party. Party leaders have expressed confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s candidacy, framing him as the best choice for Ghana’s economic future. “This is the first time we have an economist leading us,” Attah Akyea remarked, adding that voters must prioritize development and digitalization over nostalgia. The party’s leadership remains optimistic, reiterating its belief that the Eastern Region will reject former President John Mahama and support the vision of Dr. Bawumia to secure a brighter future for Ghana.
