A former Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has revealed that Dr Bryan Acheampong, the sitting MP for Abetifi, is preparing to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential slot ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to reporters, Appiah-Kubi described Dr Acheampong as a unifying force capable of restoring the party’s fortunes after its defeat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2024.
“The task on our hearts is to present a great candidate who can redeem our party, and Dr Bryan Acheampong is preparing himself for that mission,” he stated.
“He will speak for himself in due course, but I am only a messenger. From what I know, he is the one—and his work speaks volumes.”
Appiah-Kubi highlighted Dr Acheampong’s blend of intellectual depth and business acumen, suggesting this makes him an ideal flagbearer.
“If we are looking for a candidate with intellectual prowess, Bryan is the one. If we want a successful business mogul, he’s that too. So with him, we’re killing two birds with one stone… he is a symbol of victory,” he said.
Although Dr Acheampong has yet to make an official declaration, these remarks are seen as the strongest indication of a possible campaign.
Appiah-Kubi also emphasized the need for unity within the NPP, stating that healing internal divisions would be crucial as the party prepares for its post-2024 leadership reorganisation.
