Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured Ghanaians that the country will not relapse into the severe economic challenges experienced in recent years, insisting that the Mahama administration remains committed to safeguarding the progress made so far.
Delivering the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament on Thursday, July 23, Dr Forson said the government’s economic strategy is anchored on prudent fiscal management, responsible public spending and reforms designed to sustain growth while preserving macroeconomic stability.
He told lawmakers that the positive performance recorded by the economy during the first half of the year was the outcome of deliberate policy decisions and disciplined implementation rather than chance.
“And I give this House my firm assurance: this economy will never return to the emergency room under our watch,” the Finance Minister declared.
Dr Forson maintained that the administration would continue to pursue policies that strengthen the economy, improve public sector efficiency and ensure that state resources are used responsibly to drive national development.
He also stressed that the economic progress achieved should not be viewed as a victory for the government alone, but as a collective achievement for all Ghanaians.
“Mr Speaker, let me be clear, these achievements do not belong to Government. They belong to the people of Ghana,” he said.
According to the Finance Minister, the government remains focused on protecting livelihoods while creating an environment that supports long-term economic resilience and inclusive growth.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline and implementing measures that will sustain investor confidence, preserve economic stability and expand opportunities for businesses and citizens across the country.
Dr Forson’s remarks formed part of the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, during which he outlined the government’s assessment of the economy and its strategy for consolidating recent gains while keeping the country on a path of sustainable development.
