Political Science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Prof. Alidu Seidu has advised the electoral commission to afford the leading two political parties, the NPP and the NDC a veto power to veto the voting rights and decisions of the smaller parties without parliamentary representation at IPAC.

According to him, the power of a political party at IPAC should be commensurate with the number of MPs and offices they have across the country.

Speaking on ABC News GH on Thursday he said that ” moving forward, if possibility should give the NDC and the NPP the power of veto, so they can veto the decisions of smaller political parties that do not have representation in parliament.”

“So for instance, the number of representation you have in parliament, the number of registered voters you have in the country, that’s the membership should commiserate with your power in IPAC,” he added.

With this, he explained that smaller parties with no representations will have the same level of vote.

His comment follows worries that the equal powers to political parties at IPAC have hindered growth and changes in election regulations.

He further bemoaned the constant disqualification of smaller parties.
