President John Dramani Mahama has assured that his administration is committed to resolving the country’s ongoing energy crisis and ensuring that the days of frequent power outages, commonly known as “dumsor,” do not return.
Speaking at the National Convention of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana on Thursday, January 9, 2025, President Mahama acknowledged the serious challenges the country faces, particularly in the energy sector, and assured citizens that his government is taking decisive action to tackle these issues.
“We are assuming office at a critical time in our nation’s history. Ghana is faced with significant challenges. But that is exactly the reason why you elected us,” he stated. “We will transparently let you understand what those challenges are and we will take responsibility for solving them.”
The President also emphasized the looming threat of power outages due to insufficient fuel supplies for power generation. However, he urged Ghanaians not to despair, reminding them that his government was elected to address these issues head-on, not to assign blame.
“There is a threat of power outages but my brothers and sisters, don’t despair. You elected us to solve the problems, not to put the blame on anybody else,” President Mahama said.
To demonstrate his commitment to resolving the energy crisis, he revealed that on January 8, 2025, he convened a meeting with key stakeholders to discuss and implement innovative solutions to stabilize the energy supply.
“I can assure you of some of the ideas they have come up with. We will make sure that your lights stay on and that we do not have dumsor,” he added.
President Mahama emphasized the need for urgent and collaborative efforts to address the energy sector’s challenges, and reassured the public that his administration is fully prepared to lead the way in finding lasting solutions.
